why do I prescribe myself

At the age of 63, I have already got some heart problem in which I knew that these had started many years before. When I was young and working as a leader in different levels in the government, I worked and participated in every events coming to my path. These too many activities might cause me a disease I had never expected because I also made heavy exercises for over 30 years. Now I have my bone deterioration too.
Last few days, I went to have an ECHO test and exercise test at the hospital, founding that I had problems on heart valve leaking and heart swelling. The doctor prescribed 3 sets of medicine for daily take. One was for cholesterol reduction, two was for blood pressure and last for protecting the stomach. Additionally, doctor recommended me to do more exercise and get away from any depress.
Now I started getting more exercise, try to sleep longer and control my food habit. I usually like icecream, fried food, crisps, starchy snacks, coffee and alcoholic beverages etc. Now I stopped some of them. Besides, I try eating more fruit and vegetable. The question is if I can reduce my blood pressure and cholesterol level by food and exercise therapy, do I have to continue my prescribtion.
I read from Matichon, the newspaper, this morning[Feb 8th] about a lady who had been diagnosed with the ovary cancer. She was treated by removing the reproductive organ and 6 chemotherapy. Then, she went to Luangprabang, leading the natural life and food for a while. Now she is in Bangkok and live in the house covering with tree in natural condition. Prior to this diagnosis, she was so busy with business and social activities. Her activities were overload and she cared less on eating and quality of life. Presently she has resigned from business and stays home. She said that life was fun not only from works, we could find peace and happiness by leading life in the natural ways.[She might not need working for money]
I wonder if I treat myself with natural ways and stop taking pills. Is that the right way for a heart maintaining? I am afraid that pills may lead me to other problems such as liver or kidney failures. Now, I am trying to eat more vegetable, fruit, and fishes. Trying some fresh food, I also eat Thai food ingredients such as garlic, onion, shallot, mint leaves, basal leaves, ginger, etc. Someone said that they were herbs. Besides, I increase my daily exercise too.
Yesterday, I went to participate in a cremation of my former colleague's father. In the ceremony, the speaker read his history for paying respect. A part of history was about being suffered from heart disease at 60's. From there, he started being vegetarian and exercise. He died at the age of 98. I didn't know, meanwhile if he took any pill daily. However, he could live very long with his heart sickness. My parents also had heart problems before they passed away, they took a lot of pills daily until the last day. My heart problem could come from their gene transfering because it is a disease of everyone in this family, startng from my grandfather.
However, I dream that I can stop taking pills and lead the normal life again in the future. That means, I minimize starchy and fatty food consuming in stead of taking cholesterol reduction pill. I will also stop blood pressure pill by making my blood circulation smoothly with more exercise. Can I do that? I must try.
