The additional income crop was string bean[yard long bean]. This income was for feeding the working force because bamboo had no pest, the workers still had more time for other works.
My friend's son, the owner of the farm dressed with the black long sleeves shirt.
He was working like other workers and do everything in the farm. The key of success was the workers feeling like being part of the farm just like the owner
General farm condition
String bean was the additional income crop, others were banana, etc. The problem of string bean was heavy spraying of chemicals whereas bamboo had none.
Walking in the farm was a healthy exercise. The owner and his wife were lucky to have a chance to operate this farm. Previously it was the tangerine farm operated by his wife's father. The tangerine was failed by a serious disease. Their father moved to start a new tangerine in Chiangmai and left this farm to them
Talking and listening
There were a lot of things to ask about bamboo
A corner of the farm, there was the high soil dam surrounded the farm in case of flooding. The high dam prevented water from ouside to the farm
Bamboo trees and some weed on the beds between the water pond
Different view of bamboo farm
Another view
Another side of farm operated some crops for diversifying.
This pond must be clean from algae and weed. Fishes [some were big] helped eating them
Water pump on the boat. The irrigation pipes were two ways by which the man pushed the boat between beds on the water.
String bean grading. Before eating we should care of intensive washing because of heavy spraying
Workers had experience for the jobs. They have worked here since the farm was tangerine operated by the father generation
Bamboo shoot harvesting, transporting by boat, grading and packing for the market
Experience workers had some laughing talk while working. This picture showed the bamboo shoots after grading by sizes
Bamboo was a good crop for famer to earn their living.
I have no experience of being a farmer but I doubt that it is an enjoyable task. I am envious many hard working farmers with the good fortune. In the past, I worked all my life at the government office with now earning a little pension. It is too late for starting farm. The better way is touring around to different farm and take some pictures for the memory. I would like one of my children think of operating farm in the future. Chavalvut Chainuvati
