Na Oad, please sleep in peace. I read your history and was impressed

I read a book on my relative's history written by himself. I call him Na Oad [Uncle Oad]. His wife[Na Taew] is my mother's cousin which is equal to younger sister. Now, Na oad has passed away at the age of 75 by cancer and left his book to the guest who attended his cremation ceremony.

Na Oad's pride was being an army. His last position was the Lieutenant General as a commander of the Arms and Ammunition Department which his father used to be in this position before. When he was a student, after graduation from basic education, he tried to apply for the army school for three years and he was achieved. Most of his brothers had been in this school and served successfully in army careers. He also was fond of music and writing songs. He was the cheer leader in school and participated in the music band during studying, his army service and retiring. He had a chance to perform on air in His Majesty the King's radio channel which he said that it was the very great pride for him in life. After retiring, he was still the centre of friends that coming to his house for music and pleasure. His life was full of direct ways and happiness.

Na Oad got married to my aunt which was his close school friend's sister, Na Taew. Na Tan was Na Oad close friend in Am nuae silpa School. One day, Na Tan invited Na Oad to Udornthanee to live with his family and Na Oad met Na Taew there. Their true love had begun and remained happily until the end. I remembered when I was a boy and Na Taew lived with us when she got off for the weekend holidays from the Nursing School at Ying[Rajwitee] Hospital. Na Oad came to see Na Taew and brought her out for dinner. They were the impressive lovely couple and I still have their images in my mind. Na Taew said she loved Na Oad's fang teeth which were charming, I remembered.

Na Oad and Na Taew had two daughters. They were quite attractive. The oldest one got married and had a healthy grand son. Their younger daughter was single eventhough she was so lovely and beloved among the family and relatives. Unfortunately, she passed away with cancer only a few years before Na Oad's time. The family were in great sorrow for this loss. Na Oad did too. He wrote that, he was sitting catching her hand in the emergency room for all time. Neither food nor water came to him. He was doing like that until she left. How ever, he concluded that it was good for her to leave before him and never saw him in great pain. The good way to think positively.

His story impressed me and brought back my childhood memory. Their story was a sample case for the young lovers to follow. They were happy and had good lives together. I was sad not being able to attend his cremation to see him leaving for good. From now, there is no Na Oad like that again. Promising that I would remember Na Oad and his happy companies. I'd like to see Na Taew but I have no way to contact her. I want to say "Thanks a lot, Na Taew to hand me an impressive book on my adoring hero when I was a child". I hope that Na Taew continue her happy life with her remained family and friends particularly her grand children. Send my regards to Na Tan for me too. Chavalvut

Talking in General for day in day out

My cellular phone was stolen yesterday.
It was the one I am still paying the instalment every months. It was Samsung with 8 million pixels camera. The price was about 17,000 baht on the time I bought or a few month after last new year. I forgave the one who stole it and wish that this was to be my debt paying to her/him in the previous time. Now, I use the 1,000 baht cell phone instead.
There were not many suspects in this circumstance. Actually, there was only one. There were few evidence to explain it. For example, firstly, who was the one standing by the site where my phone was, then that one walked out from our companying. Secondly, when I was looking for my phone, I used other one calling for spotting by sound but it was not anywhere home. My first ringing was quite long but the second ringing was turned off fastly. The thief must learn fastly how to operate the phone. Ignorant persons could not learn that fast. There were more reasons I could think of but we could not blame anyone. Friendship was more important than my phone.

Environment
Last week, I had a chance to attend a technical meeting on environment. It was about the agreement which Thailand concerned. They were Biodiversity, Desertification, and Climate Change. These topics were interesting and related to our lives and future. I doubted that how much the world prioritized these issues. In modern countries, there were plenty of lights an energy uses around the cities even under grounds. The underground arcades were the shopping areas connected with underground train stations. These facilities have been used without limitation. But Thailand was aware of the crisis by advertising the issues and tried to save the environment by turning off lights, using cotton bags etc. It was good for us.

I noticed that there were a lot of trees in the cities and along the road sides in several countries. The City's Parks for the people health were scattered around. Thailand had only a few in Bangkok and not many parks in the provincial centres. We had the military camps more than parks because we needed them for security and peace. When I travelled to the provinces, I have seen the people jogging along the roads in town or on the highways. There were not many public parks for them to keep health fit. Most joggers had to breathe some polluted air from cars and trucks.

In Rio de Janeiro, I saw that people could not own the land on the sea coast. And in many countries, there were no private land or building on the riversides. The land on the sea coasts should be the public restng areas and the riverside lands should be the dams and other public uses. These were for flood preventing, walking, running, and recreation. Finally, I think Thai people do need more trees and public parks for their life quality.

Visit Patumthanee Rice Research Centre

On October 14th,2009, I went to Patumthanee Rice Research Centre with Pee Mor Suvit for his visit and finding some evidence for his column in the press. He is in charge of a column in Daily News.

On first arriving, we sat at the meeting room for the background of the rice researches and the result to farmers. Finding that, all rice farmers have acknowledged a lot of technology released by our researches particularly selected variety seeds, seedling broadcasting method, soil and cultural management, etc.

Mrs. Directors of the rice research Institute and the Patunthanee Rice Research Centre. They talked about how fruitful farmers get from their organization but the very limited budget have been allocated to them. Rice will always be the most important commodity forever. Many countries recognize Thailand as the world main rice producer.

In the past, we had about 10 million tonnes paddy annually but recently it comes up yearly to 30 million tonnes. The main factors to increase yield are water irrigation, the cultivars and other favourable environment. Besides, private sectors and non-government organizations also play the roles to up yield contribution.

Mrs. Director presented some souvenirs and technical books to Pee Mor Suvit. The souvenirs were jasmine white and brown rice, Germinated brown rice[GABA] powders, etc. GABA and oryzanol contain the anti-oxidants which reduce risk of many diseases particularly cancer and cardiac diseases

The space of rice field in front of the farmers' house in Nongjoj area, the fresh air breezed through the area. The sight of trees and water made our minds in rest. The local people usually are stronger and healthier than the ones in the city

Nong Joj is the main rice producing area, yield could be up to 1,000 kg/rai[0.16ha] or more. A problem is about rice weed which have just come to this area not long ago. They were the wild varieties which might have mixed with the local rice seed coming from other area. Other problems are Cherry Shell and rat's urine[which release some viral diseases]

Our researcher team accompanied with Pee Mor Suvit was meeting a farmer team who pioneer to the seedling broadcasting in this area. This team would volunteer to any requested farm to broadcast rice seedling. The wage was about 1,000 baht per rai including the seedling germination. The farm owners just handed them some seed and they would manage the rest. The seedling length was about 10 centimetres or about 10 days germination

Rice seedling pod base. it was imported from People Republic of China which it's price was cheaper than the one if it was produced in Thailand. By farmers idea, saying that the seedling broadcasting method was better than seed broadcasting by seed quantity. Seedling broadcasting needed only 4-5 kilogramme seed whereas the seed broadcasting needed about 30 kilogramme. And, another idea, the wild variety rice weed was less in seedling broadcasting area.

Farmers said that this was a new method in the area and many farmers still watched the result before adopting. However, they sometimes travelled to other districts to demonstrate this method with the same wage they got from their neighbour farms. Asking about the competitors in the future, they were not afraid of having competitiors because this method could be expanded in this area widely.

Firstly, farmers must have the flat soil ploughing. On the day before the broadcasting, farmers should flood the land for one day and then drained the water out, just left the land wet. After broadcasting was done, the farm should be irrigated again but the water level should not be too high, just about a few inches above the soil level. At first sight, farmers thought, rice growing in the land were so thin. But when the seedling came up it looked so good

This was the farm which the seedling broadcasting was done. Rice canopy will cover the whole area soon. The target yield was set over 1,000 kg.per rai.

Look closer. Plants look healthy. The varieties in this area were Patumthanee and Pitsnuloke. The performance of these two varieties were appropriated to this area. As saying, yield was around 900-1,000 kg.

Team gathering between researchers and farmers. We said good bye to each other and left.

Back to the research centre, this was the rice demonstration. They looked quite uniformed. There was no pest or any disease showing.

Various varieties were performed. This could be the local specific varieties, e.g. for low or up land, low and high water level, early or late maturity, etc.

Rice varieties could be the open pollinated variety which they mostly were over 90 percent self fertilization. The hydrid variety for high yielding[with high input particularly fertilizers] was testing and would be released to the farmers soon. But the growers have to compare about the cost of input, the yield and net income including it's qaulity. Some countries need high yielding varieties for feeding the big and dense population and they therefore adopt the hybrid vigors. But Thai poeple have some desire of the taste and aroma.

Finally, I drove back to Bangkok. On the way back, the traffic were smoothly. But I missed the way again. On the Rangsit Junction, I was to go to Sear, a computer's centre by the way back to Bangkok. When I saw the left flyover, I took it and anticipated that it went to the left outer way to Sear Rangsit but, instead, it was the transit to express way. It was fast to pass through the sign and it was not clear to me. Laughingly, this was the third time I missed the road at this area and many times which I missed the road in Bangkok. It is not good to get old.

Family and relatives, they are so important

Sometime, we write some articles for fun. write thing which we think of. The content and the picture explanation are different. Please read it

On October 11th, Sunday, we went to Srimahosot[Kokpeep] again. This time for presenting robes to the monks at the end of Buddhist Lent at Promsenaram Temple where our family have gone to and supported for very long time. At this time, we also worshipped to my aunt's and cousins' ashes which were kept at the room building in this temple. I drove from home and back very slowly about 100 km/hr. and asked my wife to help looking out on the road for preventing accident and saved fuel. This time, we also had a chance a talk to my former colleague who helped us working on our cemetary farm. We have discussed some problems about the rent and came up with the new agreement and preparing paper for contract signing. In the afternoon, it was raining we therefore made a decision to drive back home in Bangkok.

An interesting product which is home made we bought from the market

It was good to me to go to the robes presenting ceremony as talking above because I met many relatives there and was among them as the old days. Actually, there was an other robes presenting ceremony of my friend in Kanchanaburi at the same time, but my choice was for going to my father's home village first. Relatives would be with me for life.

For the good appetite, any fruits can be cooled and topped with a dressing of salt and chilli

While we were travelling to Srimahosot, we discussed about my children among our family in the car. I knew that they were quite progressive. However, I wish to convey some message to Nong Beau, my daughter. I would like her to think of how to get to be the owner of the firm. First start, there might be the product invention and then testing it with the consumers' idea. Remember that, finally, you must be an owner of a firm and your life would be successful.

Custard apple, a popular tropical fruit. saying that it is good for the stomach relief in the morning. We can made juice or icecream from this raw material

Nong Ben, I wish you to do the same with your sister, Pee Beau. Saving money, think of other alternative works and keep trying. Besides, I would like you to wear spectacles in stead of contact lens. Wearing contact lens all the time is dangerous.

Germinated rice[GABA-gamma amino butyric acid] milk. Other home made product which is the good diet for people. It can be icecream as well.

At home, I ate fresh vegetable salad after drinking lemon-honey juice before the main dish for breakfast. After dinner and a lot of fruits, I had Yoghurt after meal. Believe that Yoghurt contains vitamins including B12 and other elements. I thought of my children every times I ate healthy food daily. I wish them to do the same. They are far away and never talking to me for long.

Young coconut fruit, we eat it's meat and drink it's juice. it is another best diet for men and women. Coconut sherbet icecream is delicious.

Almost met a minute of accident on the country roads

As being almost 64 years old, I had some problem of unclear eye sight and could not notice objects far. I must be careful when driving.

On October 2nd, I, with my two older sisters and a grand nephew went to Srimahosot District, Prachinburi for doing some business about our ancestors' house. Early in the morning ,driving a car to the east which was against the sun, on the highway at Nong jok District, there was the traffic light junction but the red light was broken, I understood that, the light was not in use and therefore I did not stop the car. My car was almost hit the car coming from the opposite direction. It was my fault went through the red signal which I did not notice. I wondered why the officer did not repair the light and made it in use normally as fast as possible. It was dangerous for a dumb guy like me. Driving fast on the high way and there was no clear red signal which could be seen from far away. Thanks, I was saved.

Again, I drove back to the west in the evening, against the sun, There was a cow crossing the road. I was to see it when it was very near and my car moved fast, I almost hit the cow, just an inch passing through her. My heart was down to the ankle. I wondered again, if the owner of the cows acknowledged this matter and directed the cows more carefully. The cows might cause us dead. How many countries which allow the animals [and motorcycle, bicycle, local people, etc] crossing the high way whereas the cars are moving very fast? Thailand is one of them. It was a minute of accident and death.

Now, I still think of these urgent incidents and try to promise to myself that I must drive slowly. But if there are many cars on the road, driving slowly may cause them some trouble. However, driving in Thailand roads depend on how lucky the drivers are. If the stars in horoscope was not in good direction, drive carefully. Chavalvut.
