Hi! I had a chance to participate in the seminar on Agri-research for Health, Beauty and Long life conducted by Agricultural Research and Development Agency which was the public organization under Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. This seminar was between August 30-31.
The content of the seminar was started from the brief introduction of how to be in longer life span and wholesome[healthy] food. The speakers of the first day were the invited lecturers, and experience scientists from aboard. They discussed about life structure and food to match the structure. One said food was more than the calories. They invented health and happiness. They indicated about probiotics whereas our bodies were full of good and bad millions bacteria. Probiotics which were the selectively good bacteria to take into our bodies. Yoghurt was the good example. Besides, they talked about our skins and cosmetics. On the second days, all speakers were nationally well known Thais. The main important words were "eating food for medicines, don't taking medicines for food".
I would like to conclude some interesting points which I noted down from the seminar. if you are interested in any detail, please contact the Agricultural Research and Development Agency under their website by this ARDA name.
1. Human had self esteem which should be facilitated by the items following, they were, sanitary, safety, feasibility, sufficiency, life by nature, and relaxation. Food consumption were also included.
2. Digestive organs including intestine was 7 times longer than our height. Eating too much protein and fat from meat, milk and egg, it took 72 hours for the whole digestive process, but for the starch and sugar, it took only 1-2 minutes. Besides, protein and fat needed enzyme from liver and pancreas to digest. They would work harder. Also, if the fat was excess, the absorption would be slower, the slow fermentation made the fat to cover the intestine membrane. Then, this covering would be as the wall to prevent nutrients from digestion not to absorb through the membrane to other organs. This would be the cause of allergy, calcium deficiency, or susceptibility to catching cold.
Actually, fat, both saturated and unsaturated were essential to our body and brain, but to keep away from the Trans-fat, we must find the criteria of eating such as brown rice or whole grains, fruits and vegetables[atleast 400 grammes a day] fishes, particularly deep sea fishes, and some less fat content food. We must note that banana was the polysaccharide to offer good nutrition to the body. Papaya and tomato contained lycopene which helped to protect postage gland cancer. Coconut and rice bran oils had some advantages. Rice bran oil had oryzanal, inositol, etc. [mostly, nutritious value were in the husk of grain or peel of fruit]
3. There were 22 amino acids a person needed but only 8 were essential [ I remembered only lysine and Meteonine] If we consumed various beans[and sesame] and deep sea fishes, we should have adequate protein including 18 essentail minerals.
4. Deep sleeping was good for health. Pituitary gland would stop functioning between sleeping. The ways to get deep sleeping were to rest one's mind by simple meditation, and to relax before getting to sleep.
5. For the old ages, the brain cells could be diminished, but believing that under the brain tissues, there were stem cells that could build new brain cells. Finding from the man at the age over 70 who passed away that was investigated, and they found some new cells in his brain.
Factors which effected neuroplasticity were exercise [aerobic, meditation] and relaxing to minimize stress. we were able to increase brain cells by the factors following:- appropriate environment, brain care minerals, optimum brain use, exercise, and limiting only good advantage food. On the contrary, brain cells were destroyed by stress, too much steroid uptake, narcotics or addiction, getting old, and no energy exercise for brain.
6. Herbs is polyphenolics or phytochemicals. The properties of herbs were, antioxidation, infected minimising, promoting blood circulation etc. Lots of herbs contained vitamins and minerals. For example, Pak Liang[ผักเหลียง] and Pak Ka ched[ผักกะเฉด-neptunia or water mimosa] had high content of calcium and phosphorus.
7. For skin care, herbs had the function of antiwrinkle, whitening[ones that contain melanin] moisturizing, antioxidant and sun block. All of these, silk pupa case were indicated to be the good one except turmeric[ขมิ้นชัน] for antioxidant and crude rice bran oil for sun block.
8. For hair, anchan[water morning glory, blue pea], Makrood[leech lime, kaffir lime], Coconut, Ma kum dee kwai[มะคำดีควาย soapberry, soapnut], Aloe vera, banana, avogado, ginger, borapet, sesame, olive, graewkrur khao[กราวเครือขาว for senior female]
9. Pure wellness. To be in good condition of skin, we must look at detoxification[ by being sweaty] and rejuvenation[herbs]. Aesthetics skin care by natural beauty were as following, face cleaning[e.g. vegetable oil], eliminate ineffective cells on skin, skin maintenance, moisturiser, and UV protection. Aloe extract was one of these examples.
10. Herbs to maintain brain such as anchan[water morning glory], tabtim[pomegranate], mulberry, chocolate, and coffee.
Not paraben, e.g. methyl, butyl, propyl, ethyl, sodium laureth sulfate.
These were what I could note down from the meeting, I have to apologise for the scientific vocabulary mistakes because they were not in my field of work. In conclusion, the essential factors for being healthy were the right selection of food, particularly food from natural ways of producing, emphasized in vegetables and fruits [400gramme a day] whole grain or brown rice, and deep sea fishes. Second criteria was appropriate exercise until being sweaty, third was the stress elimination or think positively, and play jokes. The last thing was being in clean air which was a little hard for us. Hope that this message could be some advantage to you. Chavalvut.

Shanghai was what I heard since born
When I was born and had just accumulated my memory, I learnt that my father had an education in Shanghai and then came back home. Later, he met my mother and got married with her. My father took my mother to Shanghai by boat. It must be a long while in the ocean. My father continued his job there and then they went back to work at home. I forgot to ask how long they lived there but I guess it must be in years.
I was lucky to be in the group going to Shanghai for the business cooperation. I asked my wife to join me by some extra pay for expense. She agreed. In Shanghai, I tried to look if there was a possible place my parent used to live. It must be in the old area which we hardly passed.
Besides of hard works which were mostly talking with and visiting lab of the academic institutes, we were led to visit Hangzhou for 1 night, Suzhou for another night and then went back to Shanghai for 2 nights. On the last day, we had a chance to visit the Shanghai Architecture Exposition before flying back home at night. The plane delayed for 6 hours and made us arrive in Bangkok in the next day morning.
We visited Lake Seehu, pearl shop, jade shop, chinese herb and massage, Pearl Tower, Highest Standing Buddha Statue, and markets. Besides, we were able to watch the very beautiful show in Hangzhou, chinese acrobat in Shanghai, and beautiful sky screen at Suzhou Harmony Time Square.

My ambition was wishing everyone enjoyed this impressive adventure

Thailand Pavilion, inside, there were films show. The 3 dimension film was great as well as other films. They told the stories of our custom, tradition and scenery. One thing I would like to add in our stories were the real scenes happening all over Thailand. For example, in songkran festival, there were a lot of pick up truck loading tanks of water and few teen agers to flow water to each other, in shopping centres, there were some small pushing cars or baskets to sell small items, etc. The foreigners had to learn about Thailand nowaday.

We had a lot of work done. And we went back home with impressive memory and pride. I wish I could join them for business again. Travelling is the medicine to make old people stronger. I coud not afford to do it by myself. I wish some body call me for help in Travelling. Chavalvut

Jampasak again, come with me please
On July 23-27, I and my friends went to Khonkaen Udornthanee Ubolrajthanee and Jampasak,Laos PDR. In Khonkaen, we just spent the night and had dinner with my old colleague who was now the director of the Provincial Agriculture and Cooperatives Office. He still remember me, as being the ex-officer who retired for almost 5 years. Beside free accommodation, he also offered the delicious dinner from a nice restuarant to us. Fortunately, the owner of the restuarant was the Kasetsart University alumnus as same as us.
In Udornthanee, we went to visit my friends, also from Kasetsart, and visit a monk. He is the ex-deputy minister of Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. He was the one who promoted me from the middle level administrator to the high level, which was the deputy director of Agricultural Extension Department. He helped me to be in great progress.
And then, we drove to Ubolrajthanee on July 24th, afternoon. The main purpose was to get to Jampasak where we wanted to visit some cashew nut farms of which I was trying to be one of the visiting advisor.
Vietnamese have invested many cashew nut farms in Jampasak as well, each farm was about 1,000-2,000 hectare[1ha=6.25rai]. One farm on the way we passed which was also more than 1,000 hectare was transplanting cashew nut seedling. Recently, I have seen a lot of Vietnamese there. They were already local citizens eventhough they still spoke Vietnamese among themselves. They owned various business such as restuarants, shops, tea farm, etc

Now we arrived at the guest house in Ubolrajthanee. In general, this area made us feel at home.

We stayed in this guest house because the hotels were full. It was the long weekend for buddhist lent and other important buddhist days[ Ar sa ra ha boo cha ]

Local dance shows which were so beautiful. I was stunt with many beautiful dancers

This was at the night time on the food centre near the guest house where we stayed

Arriving in Jampasak. Looked at Mae Khong and rested our eyes sight. It looked far, soft and cool. We are lucky to be born around here

Between lunch on the Mae Khong Riverside Restuarant

Suspension bridge, made by bamboo woods and metal stings, to the water fall

Beautiful, wasn't it?

This water fall was named Pa Suam. A Thai man from Nakornpatom found it and made his business here. Now he is blind because of Malaria Fever. The great Pioneer whom we are proud of.

Plant diseases were the major problems of cashew nut cultivation. This was the organic farm or natural ways practice which was a lot harder than the substance used farms

Algae outbreak symtoms?

Some symtoms on the leaf

Leaf worms?

Infection were shown on the branch tips which were the place for flowering

Weed is another problem particularly for the natural cultivation
.jpg)
Dried flowering because of a disease. We must take samples to the lab for making culture and investigation

Growing not very well. Agreeing that cashew nut cultivation is not the easy practice.

Local farm in general, it is hard to make an intensive care

Look at the old lamps. When I was young and went to live with my grand mother, uncles, aunts, and relatives in the countryside village, we used these lamps at night. I still remember the atmosphere of my impressive old times.

Wood carving dolls on sale at the water fall area.

Other style, look terrible for me

Coming again to this water fall, a big one

Every time to Jampasak, we came here because we brought different group of friends

Look cool and fresh

Water fall's name, Klong Pa Peng

Mae Khong River for the villagers's being

Beautiful Temple on the small hill.

Can you eat them? They were alive lizards, founded in the evening village market.

Other meat source for the same local evening market

Baby frogs, still alive and jumping, they were also for food?

I'd rather have only vegetable, legume and starches

Look at the Joss stick-candle basket making by banana leaf and flowers

For the buddha image worshipping, I thought these stuff were on the buddhist days. But I did not ask anyone.
Pakse is a big city in Jampasak. There is a small town called Jampasak on the other side of Maekhong River, but Jampasak is also the name of the province. Daorueng Group was the big business firm in Pakse. We saw many business sites ownd by Daorueng such as market, building, hotel etc. They are like CP and a few business giants in Thailand.
Thai Government by the ex-prime minister, provided many assistantships to Laos by government budget[by our taxes paying] but Lao people thought that these were from Mr.Prime Minister personally instead of Thai government. Therefore, this was the strategy of politicians to call attention from the people[ anywhere, not only in Laos]. They paid nothing but gained a lot. I wish the people felt that these assistantships were from their friends, our Thai people.

Coming back to Ubonrajthanee. Next pictures were the candle wax decoration cars contest in Ubolrajthanee for the Buddhist lent day event

Second prize award

This well known contest is popular nationwide. Thai and tourists come for the event.

First prize award

Very pink, sweet colour like candy
We left Ubonrajthanee about 1.00pm after having papaya salad, fried chicken and sticky rice. We drove on the shorter way passed through different provinces. The road was narrower and the car was driven slower but we could watch scenery on the roadside. We arrived in BKK some times around midnight. This was one of my happy moment, I am happy everytime if I can travel far because I think of nothing but the next destination. Chavalvut.
